ARE YOU SAVED?

This is perhaps the single most important question you can be asking yourself.  Your answer will determine your joy or sorrow for eternity.  It is important to know that it has nothing to do with how good you are, whether you have morals, whether or not you go to or belong to a church, or whether or not you help the needy or donate to charities.  Can you be sure that you will go to Heaven when you die?

God has graciously given us a simple plan of salvation. To find out what this is, we need to look at the Bible.

HOW DO I BECOME SAVED?

Know that God loves you and has a great plan for your life.

There is a feeling deep in all of us that there is a God and a longing to get to know Him.  There are all kinds of people who are seeking God.  Some believe in Him, and some don't but are at least open to the possibility of His existence and are interested to see what part He might play in their lives.  Since He loves us unconditionally, He will be happy to listen to your problems and help you with them. If you seek Him with an open heart and mind, you will find Him.  God's purpose for your life will be more rewarding than anything you have known before.

"For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal live." John 3:16
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11
Christ said,"...I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." John 10:10

We are all sinners.

We are all sinners, and there is no way for us to measure up to God's standards without help.

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23

Sin has a penalty which must be paid.

"for the wages of sin is Death..." Romans 6:23
"Just as a man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment..." Hebrews 9:27
This penalty includes eternal separation from God in Hell.

Jesus Christ has paid the penalty for your sin by His death on the cross.

But God loves us so much, He can reach out in love to us despite our sin.
"But God demonstrated His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
"God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God." 1 Corinthians 5:21

Salvation is a free gift.

Salvation is not something you can get by being "a good person" or doing "good works."  You could never do enough "good works" to live up to God's standard.  He is Holy and perfect.  We can't hope to live up to that.  Only Christ can offer us forgiveness of our sins and failures.  This is the beginning of our relationship with God.

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this is not from your selves, it is the gift of God -- not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

You must receive Jesus Christ.

The very word "Christian" implies that a person has entered into an actual relationship with Jesus Christ.

How do we get to Heaven?  We must repent of our sins, ask forgiveness, and accept that Christ bore our sin, died in our place to pay for our sins, and was buried and resurrected..

Jesus answered, "I am the way, the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me." John 14:6
"Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God."  John 1:12
"If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9

If you feel ready to take this step, you may pray a prayer like this one:

"Heavenly Father, I recognize my sins, and I am sorry. I want and need You in my life.  I accept what your Son, Jesus Christ, did for me on the cross--giving His life for me for the forgiveness of my sins. I long to receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. I ask you, Jesus, to come into my heart and make me a new person. Be my Lord and Savior, and show me the way to the fulfilling life God has promised me. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen."

If you prayed that prayer, then welcome to the Family of God! The angels in Heaven rejoice when someone accepts Jesus as their Personal Savior. --Luke 15:10

You can have assurance of Salvation.

Jesus said, "Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life." John 6:47
"And this is the testimony. God has given us eternal life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life."  1 John 5:11-12
"For 'whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.'"  Romans 10:13

Now what?

Pray daily.  Let God know how He can help you, and don't forget to praise Him for the things that are going right in your life!
